Hall of Shame

  GOVERNMENT PETITIONS

One of Tony Blair`s initiaitives to encourage voter involvement was "people power" petitions.

Here are some results

Keep fuel duty down - ignored

Give gurkhas full pensions - ignored

St Georges day - calls for a celebration Bank Holiday - ignored

Speed Cameras - these proposals were sanitised to the extent that no change is evident.

Currently there is a high vote petition against the proposed closure of local GP surgeries and the building of 150 superclinics.  Will they listen?

The denial of any sort of vote on the European Union, which the government is convinced it will lose, is shameful, especially as this was promised in the election manifesto.
